Local Artists Wanted/ The Blue Goose January Art Event

Subject: Blue Goose First Ever Local Artists Weekend - We are looking for artists!

 

Attention Local Artists: The Blue Goose, the new wine, coffee and gift shoppe in historic St. Marys (on corner of Osborne and Bryant) loves to support the arts and is having their first ever Local Artists Weekend on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th.
There is no cost to artists for this first-time event and we are limiting it to only six artists.
 
We would like to have our spots filled by this Thursday (Dec. 22nd) to promote this event. So be quick! Please submit via email photos of yourself, your artwork and a short bio so that if you are selected we can promote your work on our website and our Facebook page and on our calendar of events. Artists will be required to bring their own displays/tables and will either set up inside or outside in our beautiful courtyard, depending on the weather. Artists are responsible for setting up & manning their own displays Saturday, Jan 28th from 10am-6pm and Sunday, Jan. 29th from 11am-6pm. If you would also like to demonstrate your art, let me know!

Cumberland Island National Seashore Announces New Christmas Ornament and Winter Hours

St Marys, GA- Cumberland Island National Seashore announced its winter schedule today for the visitor center, ferry operations, and the popular Lands and Legacies tour. The winter schedule will remain in effect until February 28, 2012.

The ferry service to Cumberland Island which is operated by Lang's Seafood Inc. will continue to make two trips from St Marys at 9:00 am and 11:45 am Thursday through Monday. Return trips from Cumberland Island also occur Thursday through Monday at 10:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. From December 1 through February 28 there is no public ferry service to the island on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Land and Legacies tour continues to operate at full capacity most days.
Starting in January and through February, the tour will not be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday as there is no ferry service to the island those days.

As with most services to the island, visitors are encouraged to make reservations up to six months in advance for ferry trips, camping and the Lands and Legacies trip by calling the reservation line Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at 912-882-4335 or 1-877-860-6787.

The Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center located in downtown St. Marys is open daily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During the holidays our visitor facilities will observe the following operating hours:
December 24-- the ferry will operate on a normal schedule; the visitor center will close at 1:30 p.m. December 25-- all visitor faculties are closed including ferry operations. December 31-- the ferry will operate on a normal schedule; the visitor center will close at 1:30 p.m.

You can also celebrate the holidays by taking home a Cumberland Island National Seashore ornament. This year's ornament features the First African Baptist Church and is the third in a series highlighting historic buildings on the island. The other two ornaments are of Plum Orchard and Dungeness Mansion. The ornaments sell for $15.95 and can be purchased at the Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center.

IZO THE SNOWMAN WILL ATTEND THE ST. MARYS CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES

Georgia Tourism’s holiday promotion makes a stop in historic St. Marys

What:              The state’s official holiday campaign is making a stop in St. Marys, Georgia to attend the December 10th Christmas Tour of Homes!  The home tour runs from 5:00 PM –  9:00 PM but come out and take your picture with Izo the traveling snowman at the St. Marys Welcome Center before the tour.  He’ll be at the welcome center from 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM on Saturday.  Visitors are encouraged to takes pictures with Izo and post them to his photo album on Facebook and Twitter.

 

Who:               Izo is a snowman from up North who has traveled to Georgia in search of a more temperate climate and authentic holiday experiences. Izo is visiting holiday events, festivals, destinations, and more across the state through January 8, 2012. Izo is sharing his whereabouts and experiences via www.facebook.com/exploregeorgia and www.twitter.com/exploregeorgia.

 

Why:               “Izo Explores Georgia” is an opportunity for the state’s tourism assets to promote their Georgia holiday special offers, festivals and events via the state’s social media channels and www.ExploreGeorgia.org. The campaign encourages visitors and locals to “follow” Izo as he travel across Georgia. It is an excellent opportunity to not only increase the state’s social network, but encourage existing fans and followers to get out and Explore Georgia.

ST. MARYS CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE

SAVOR THE SEASON WITH THE CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES IN HISTORIC ST. MARYS, GEORGIA

Capture the Spirit of the Holiday with Friends and Family

 

ST. MARYS, GA (December 6, 2011) – Tickets are still available for the annual St. Marys Christmas Tour of Homes.  The tour is a festive tradition that brings out the best in holiday décor and cheer in historic St. Marys, Georgia.

This year's tour will be held, this Saturday, December 10 from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and will feature six beautifully decorated private homes, three bed & breakfasts, and five churches. The sparkle of the adorned trees and winter wonderland décor will have you savoring the season.   

Also included on the tour will be Orange Hall, a circa 1829 Greek revival mansion, which was recently listed on the Georgia Trust's "Places in Peril" list, along with the Bachlott House, a circa 1911 home which now houses the administrative offices of Cumberland Island Seashore, and the St. Marys Submarine Museum, where the legacy of submarine service lives on.

Each uniquely ornamented location on the tour will warm your heart to the holidays and have your mind swimming with ideas to deck out your own home or business. You'll experience the charm of an authentic southern town that is all alight for the holidays.

Entertainment will be available throughout the event from church choirs and vocal groups who will be caroling at various venues along the tour route.  There will be a free 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. special performance in the St. Marys Waterfront Park, provided by a local Christian band, "IGNITE." This popular group has performed at various events throughout the area. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the uplifting music provided by this talented group of musicians.

Attendees should plan on driving on this tour but can take advantage of a bus that will be available along the path, as well.
