Cumberland Island National Seashore Announces New Christmas Ornament and Winter Hours

St Marys, GA- Cumberland Island National Seashore announced its winter schedule today for the visitor center, ferry operations, and the popular Lands and Legacies tour. The winter schedule will remain in effect until February 28, 2012.

The ferry service to Cumberland Island which is operated by Lang's Seafood Inc. will continue to make two trips from St Marys at 9:00 am and 11:45 am Thursday through Monday. Return trips from Cumberland Island also occur Thursday through Monday at 10:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. From December 1 through February 28 there is no public ferry service to the island on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Land and Legacies tour continues to operate at full capacity most days.
Starting in January and through February, the tour will not be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday as there is no ferry service to the island those days.

As with most services to the island, visitors are encouraged to make reservations up to six months in advance for ferry trips, camping and the Lands and Legacies trip by calling the reservation line Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at 912-882-4335 or 1-877-860-6787.

The Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center located in downtown St. Marys is open daily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During the holidays our visitor facilities will observe the following operating hours:
December 24-- the ferry will operate on a normal schedule; the visitor center will close at 1:30 p.m. December 25-- all visitor faculties are closed including ferry operations. December 31-- the ferry will operate on a normal schedule; the visitor center will close at 1:30 p.m.

You can also celebrate the holidays by taking home a Cumberland Island National Seashore ornament. This year's ornament features the First African Baptist Church and is the third in a series highlighting historic buildings on the island. The other two ornaments are of Plum Orchard and Dungeness Mansion. The ornaments sell for $15.95 and can be purchased at the Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center.
