“GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY”

An angel of the Lord brought a message to shepherds guarding their flocks, bringing them "good tidings of great joy" saying, "unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Reminiscent of that first blessed Christmas, TDS is proud to sponsor a moving Live Nativity depicting the long ago holy night.

The hallowed scene will be reenacted four times on the grounds of Orange Hall in downtown St. Marys on Tuesday, December 18th  at 6:15 pm, 6:45 pm, 7:15 pm and 7:45 pm. Mary and Joseph will arrive, as it was in days of old, in Bethlehem only to find no room in the inn. Among live nativity animals, the precious story of Jesus’ miraculous birth will be recounted as the baby is wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid to rest in the manger.

Celebrating the blessed birth will be choral selections of local church choirs and elementary school students. There is no better way to honor the true meaning of the season than to witness this very heart-felt exhibit. Viewing the Live Nativity is quite often a time-honored family tradition, a treasured holiday experience for all ages. Sharing the story of the first Christmas as it is solemnly narrated will certainly leave a lasting impression, bring families together, and prove to be an inspiring way to commemorate Christmas every year.

Mark your calendars for December 18th and celebrate the reason for the season at Orange Hall from 6:00-8:00 pm. The evening will conclude with everyone in attendance singing Silent Night.  During a time when we have men and women deployed so far away from home, the Live Nativity inspires “peace on earth, good will toward men,” a sentiment we, as a nation, all pray for especially during the holidays. Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge to Host
Old Fashioned Sugar Cane Boil

Have a sweet tooth? Grab your friends and family and come on out to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and take part in a traditional sugar cane boil at the historic Chesser Island Homestead. Visitors can assist with the grinding of sugar cane using a traditional mule-powered grinder and sample the sweet cane juice produced in its purest form. Then stick around and watch as the vat of juice is boiled down to make authentic cane syrup – the perfect addition to any kitchen table and try the syrup on homemade biscuits baked on the wood stove!

In addition to witnessing a hands-on demonstration of the early techniques used to process sugar cane, visitors will get a glimpse into the life of the "Swamper" families that pioneered the Okefenokee Swamp. Sugar cane was an important staple for families homesteading the Okefenokee frontier. Most of these "Swamper" families made extensive use of sugar cane and cane-related products such as cane syrup and wax. Sugar cane still continues to be used today for a variety of purposes; it is often used as a preservative for fruits and meats and its numerous medicinal properties make it a staple in many households.

A five dollar refuge entrance fee is required, unless visitors possess an America the Beautiful Annual Pass, Senior Pass, Access Pass, Refuge Annual Pass, or Duck Stamp. For more information about this and other programs, please contact the Richard S. Bolt Visitor Center at (912) 496-7836 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

THEATRE BY THE TRAX TO HOST AUCTION OF CELEBRITY PROPS

Saturday, November 17 at 2 p.m.
Theatre by the Trax
1000 Osborne Road
St. Marys, Georgia

ST. MARYS, GA—If you're looking for a great conversation piece to grace your business or home, be sure and attend the November 17th auction at Theatre by the Trax in St. Marys.

Props and other items used in the filming of Royal Pains and LoveTown USA will be auctioned off along with props from recent theatre productions.

According to Theatre by the Trax owner Doug Vaught, there are more than 200 items that will be auctioned off.

"We have props used by the stars of Royal Pains during their filming here in March," Vaught said. "I think people will get a kick out of seeing how St. Marys was made to look like The Hamptons and will find an item that interests them enough to want to take it home."

Items from the filming of LoveTown USA will also be on auction as well as some interesting props from shows that include The Fantasticks, Man of La Mancha, and River of Life.

"The auction will give the people of Camden an opportunity to own a piece of history," Vaught said. "We expect to have lots of people who have fond memories of their work as extras on the set to bid on keepsakes that will help them re-live their own celebrity experience."

According to Vaught, every item will be authenticated. For more information, call 912-552-5559. The auction starts at 2 pm on November 17, and doors will be open one hour prior for viewing. Proceeds will be used to help enrich the performing arts experience in Camden County.
