CUMBERLAND ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE UPDATES PARK CLOSURE
Cumberland Island National Seashore will remain closed to visitation through Wednesday, May 30, 2012 due to remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl. Further closures will be determined daily based on the severity of the storm, its aftermath and conditions on Cumberland Island and surrounding waters.
“The National Seashore staff has begun making assessments of storm damage and are beginning the clean up process,” stated Fred Boyles, Superintendent. “Our top priority is to continue the assessment of park facilities, grounds, campgrounds, and trails on the Island. Today’s rain and wind is slowing down the process but we will systematically cover the Island to ensure safe conditions for park employees and when we re-open for park visitors.”
Visitors with ferry and camping reservations for May 30 and for future dates should monitor the situation for information about reopening by calling the park at 912-882-4336 extension 254. For rescheduling or wanting a ferry refund for the dates of the park closed, please contact 877-860-6787.
