FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

St. Marys Little Theatre’s Production of “The Fantasticks” Tickets Now On Sale

ST. MARYS, GA—The world’s longest running and most beloved musical, “The Fantasticks,” is being staged in St. Marys in October, and tickets are now on sale.

“There’s a reason that ‘The Fantasticks’ ran for 42 years on Broadway,” said St. Marys Little Theatre (SMLT) director Barbara Ryan. “This landmark musical features some of theatre’s most beautiful songs including the iconic Try to Remember.”

The plot of “The Fantasticks” involves next-door neighbors scheming to make their adolescent children fall in love with each other—in a reverse Romeo and Juliet fashion—by pretending to be blood enemies, forbidding their children to speak to each other, and even building a wall between their properties, following the shrewdly observed philosophy that “to manipulate children, you need merely say no.”

The neighbors are played by theatre veterans Barrett King and Steven Jones, both who appeared in SMLT’s production of Man of La Mancha last year. El Gallo, the narrator and central vocalist, is played by T. J. Stofflet, who played Sancho in Man of La Mancha.

“The cast of ‘The Fantasticks’ is amazing,” said Ryan. “Not only do we have some of the area’s most experienced actors, we are also introducing two extraordinary young talents for the leading roles of Matt and Luisa. (Anthony Colby plays Matt, and Risa Ramsey plays Louisa.)

Other players include Alex Kearns, David Shaw, L. J. Williams, and Laurel Seymour.

Theatre critics say that once you’ve fallen in love with “The Fantasticks,” you can’t grow out of it, because it is all things to all ages. People who see “The Fantasticks” tend to see it again and again. Ryan attributes that to the easy charm and disarming humor that the play embodies.

“‘The Fantasticks’ was performed 17,162 times as a Broadway production,” Ryan said. “If you come to one of St. Marys Little Theatre’s five performances, you’ll discover why.”

Performance dates for “The Fantasticks” are October 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 7 pm, and October 21 at 2 pm. All performances are at Theatre by the Trax, 1100 Osborne Road, St. Marys, Georgia. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at St. Marys Welcome Center and Cedar Oak Café on Osborne Street, and at On the Green Salon and Day Spa at the entrance to Osprey Cove, or by calling 912-729-1103.
